We brought the chickens home a year ago today! Leo made them cupcakes with seeds & mealworms on top — they were a hit.
I feel pretty certain that we were alone in hosting a gjetost taste test today.
Neighbor Kristin brought over Tine brand “Ekte Geitost”. I provided Ski Queen Gjetost. The difference between ekte — or real — and SkiQueen is that Ski Queen has cow’s milk added while the other is 100% goat’s milk. The Tine definitely was “rich and strong”, as its label says, with a sour tang. The Ski Queen was much sweeter.
Most of the others attending stuck with waffles and muffins, though Kara’s mom enjoyed the new cheeses.
Tine makes 11 different types of Gjetost, which have the delightful name of “brown cheese” in Norwegian. We have our work cut out for us.
