Hansel and Gretel at the Met

Filed under: Uncategorized — fehlhaber @ 9:30 pm

We got to see a terrific art show at the Met GalleryNew Yorker illustrators interpreting Hansel and Gretel. We probably spent a good half-hour there talking about all the pictures and reading the Roz Chast retelling panel by panel (slightly edited for my four-year-old). I especially loved the creepy witches by Ana Juan , the Christoph Niemann “Weight Watchers” (what if Hansel and Gretel were fat – what should the gingerbread house look like then?), his Post-It Note Hansel & Gretel (you have to see it — the yellow Post-It crumbs are all around the gallery), and Eleanor Davis’s 3D Witch House. That one was Leo’s favorite. He went right home and acted out all of Hansel & Gretel with dolls and even used the tablecloth to make a a witch that envelops the children.
